Beach at Ixtapa
Zihuatanejo
has been occupied since the dawn of Mexican civilization and
is believed to have been a matriarchal society associated
with Mexico's Olmec civilization. By contrast, Ixtapa
is a much younger city that was developed by the Mexican government
in the 1970s. It is arguably the most modern resort on Mexico's
west coast and half of its land has been designated as an
ecological reserve.
Located
just four miles from each other, these two beautiful towns
will leave you enchanted. The Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa
area extends across 26 km of hilly tropical coastline lined
with dozens of sandy beaches and scalloped coves. Walk the
winding cobblestone streets of Zihuatanejo, a fishing village
boasting beautiful beaches and a variety of art galleries
and shops. While in Ixtapa, participate in
a variety of water sports or play a round of golf at two of
Mexico's finest facilities. |
