Snorkeling at La Paz LA PAZ:
Meaning "peace" in Spanish, La Paz
was first settled in 1811. It became the capital of California in
1829 after the village of Loreto
was destroyed in a violent hurricane. La Paz is
also known to have once been major centre for the pearling industry.
This bustling
commercial city (population 175,000) is surrounded by barren
desert which creates the perfect desert-by-the-sea atmosphere.
Behold the laurel trees and the charming coconut and date
palms. Whisk yourself away to ecologically pure offshore islands
or meander down the waterfront promenade which is considered
one of Mexico's prettiest. The city's main square houses a
beautiful 19th century cathedral as well as the Jardin Velasco
with its unique pink quartz gazebo. |
