Known as the birthplace of the Mexican visitor, the port city of Acapulco was first developed in the 16th century as a cornerstone for world trade. For 250 years, ships crossed the Pacific
from the Spanish colony of Acapulco to the
Philippines to trade Mexican silver for spices, silk, ivory,
precious stones, pearls and porcelain. Acapulco
finally joined the mainstream of Mexican development when in 1955 it
was linked by highway to Mexico City and is now Mexico's largest
coastal city.
Picture-perfect
at every turn, Acapulco is known for its
beautiful beaches and glittering nightlife. The gorgeous beaches
of Acapulco invite you to swim, sun or relax in a swaying
hammock. Take a thrilling jet boat ride, or watch the cliff
divers of La Quebrada plummet 150 feet into the ocean. Very
popular with party lovers, Acapulco is Mexico's largest and
loudest resort and full of evening festivities.
