Mexico Cruise Highlights:
Cabo San Lucas - The timeless image of that natural archway spilling into the sea evokes all the right ingredients for vacation time: Maritime desert climates, beaches galore, crystal-blue surf, and big game fish along the southern coast of rugged Baja California. This ideal resort and entertainment hub thrives at the end of the road, literally where the long Mexican peninsula meets the surf. Find classic Mexico in San Jose del Cabo, the old town, and a resort-fringed coast nearly always slathered in sunshine. Cabo's divine shopping bargains can't be beat, and wear sunglasses on Lover's Beach (great views of that arch at Land's End), as well as on forays to Las Playitas - a series of mini-beaches tucked into weathered coves.
Mazatlan - Your first impression may be of a cosmopolitan western-Mexico beach city serving up great weather, venerable iglesias, and an array of beaches. But immerse yourself a little bit and the city gets ever more remarkable. Cliff divers wait at the top of a rocky outcrop for the right wave then plummet 45 feet into the sea. Sunlight filters in through myriad panels of stained glass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Waves crash on the esplanade along Olas Altas beach, providing a soundtrack for an evening stroll. And, mmm, the shrimp. Mazatlan serves it up fresh: Try some al mojo de ajo (with garlic) or in the shell with a tangy squeeze of lime.
Puerto Vallarta - Puerto Vallarta squeezed into the thin space between Banderas Bay and the verdant folds of the Sierra Madre. It's no longer the well-kept secret of the artists, writers and Hollywood stars who first "discovered" it in the 1960s, but "PV" (as it is affectionately known) still retains the essence of the fishing village it once was. Viejo Vallarta, the old town, is a mix of red-tiled buildings, cobbled streets, chic shops and busy open markets. Other highlights include Mismaloya Beach, Gringo Gulch, and Conchas Chinas, the Beverly Hills of Vallarta. Head inland for more adventure, up into the rugged canyons and luxuriant jungles of the mountains.
San Diego - Beautiful, brilliant San Diego has the sun, the beaches, and the climate to die for. But don't let that fool you - the city is a power. It's the sixth-largest city in the U.S. and a center for military industry, trade, and biotechnology. Of course, it's a great place for cruise visitors. The San Diego Zoo is one of the world's best. Balboa Park is both a natural space and a collection of wonderful museums. Old Town is a colorful gaggle of shops and restaurants. Oh, and the beaches: Coronado, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla. The forecast is for a high of about 75 degrees. Every day. Sigh.
Oosterdam has just received a host of exciting updates, including new lounge, dining and entertainment venues, and completely refreshed suites!
World-class music venues
Some of the most notable additions are heard, as well as seen. Live music has always been the heart and soul of evenings aboard Holland America Line, and now Oosterdam features the full Music Walk experience - with three exciting venues. Lincoln Center Stage showcases an ensemble of outstanding musicians performing multiple programs of chamber music each evening, as well as afternoon recitals on sea days. Billboard Onboard features talented musicians performing dynamic shows centered around 50 years of chart-topping hits. These two new venues join the wildly popular B.B. King’s Blues Club, featuring an eight-piece band that brings the best of Memphis blues to the Queen’s Lounge every night.
The new Gallery Bar joins the variety of lounges and gathering places
Oosterdam offers a wide selection of lounges and gathering places to enjoy - each one unique. The newest is Gallery Bar, featuring an eclectic and whimsical mix of artwork including portraits, landscapes, still-life and abstract pieces. Replacing the Northern Lights nightclub, this sophisticated venue offers an exclusive menu of craft cocktails created by master mixologist Dale DeGroff.
More staterooms, plus reimagined suites
The ship has also added 25 new staterooms - 18 verandah staterooms and seven interior staterooms on Deck 10 (Observation Deck) near the Crow’s Nest. These, along with all staterooms on board, now offer an interactive television system, featuring a large LED flat-screen TV with complimentary movies on demand as well as easy access to the daily program and shipboard information including restaurant overviews, spa services and guest billing.
Suites on board Oosterdam have been completely reimagined with new furniture, wall coverings, carpeting, remodeled bathrooms, integration of a USB outlet on the headboard, bedside LED reading lights, upgraded electrical outlets and more. See the suites page for more details.
The Art of Dining... As You Wish
Every Holland America Line cruise ship offers a delicious variety of culinary offerings, from fine dining to a casual lunch by the pool, to 24-hour In-Room Dining. As part of the recent onboard enhancements, the Lido Buffet is now Lido Market, a marketplace with themed stations offering a select array of delicious options from grab and go to classic comfort food and freshly made salads to dishes from around the globe.
Onboard activities and enriching experiences
Choose from an array of onboard activities that allow you to pursue new interests or relax and rejuvenate.
