Huatulco was first inhabited by the
Tututepec tribe and soon became an important trade route of the
region for Aztec, Zapotec and Mixtec merchants. The village of Santa
Cruz Huatulco became a busy harbour and shipyard
after the Spanish conquered the area. However,
Huatulco's development declined in 1560 when the
trade route between Acapulco and the Philippines was
established.
Experience the bays of Huatulco with
some of the clearest water on Mexico's Pacific Coast. The primitive
coastline of Huatulco boasts 9 bays with 36 golden
sand beaches, some of which are so unspoiled they are only
accessible by boat. Or visit the historical village of Santa Cruz
Huatulco with its numerous shops and a great
outdoor artisans market. Take one of the many popular bay tours,
ecological excursions or horseback riding adventures.
Huatulco is also known for its excellent deep sea
fishing and reef diving. |
